Our firm has been in existence for almost two decades. The firm was founded in 1991 and it was renamed Hurlbut & Hurlbut, P.C., in 2006. Our firm is made up of lawyers with extensive experience in their respective areas of practice. Our principals, Catherine S. Hurlbut and John F. Hurlbut, have been practicing law in Illinois since 1985.
Attorney Catherine S. Hurlbut started practicing law in the greater Elgin area in 1985, as an associate with the law firm of Ariano, Anderson, Bazos, Hardy, Kramer and Castillo, P.C. In 1991 she formed the law firm of Canning & Hurlbut, P.C. where she developed a private practice in the areas of real estate, business law and civil litigation. In 1994 she was elected to the Kane County Board where she continues to serve as a commissioner concentrating in areas involving development, transportation and finance.
Attorney John F. Hurlbut started his law practice clerking for a state appellate judge and then moved on to trial practice with the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) in Chicago, where he stayed for 10 years. During that time, he also became INS Deputy District Counsel for Indiana, Illinois and Wisconsin. Between 1996 and 1998, he was Special Assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois. He then moved on to private practice.
The firm's lawyers are conversant in Spanish and Polish. They are also able to communicate with clients using American Sign Language (ASL). Our office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. We are also available for evening and weekend consultations by appointment.
